| "Welcome to Alaska!" shouts Anchorage, dumping several inches of snow on my weekend. My first of the many snowfalls to come…hopefully the rest of them will wait 'till September… |
The truth is, most of us discover where we are headed when we arrive. At that time, we turn around and say, yes, this is obviously where I was going all along. It’s a good idea to try to enjoy the scenery on the detours, because you’ll probably take a few. —Bill Watterson

Statement of Purpose
In the book I am reading, one of the characters has an early experience in which all the world falls away. It left her shaken and undermined her confidence in herself. Despite the glories and beauties of the past four years, there have been experiences in which 'all the world fell away.' Once, it came on heavy and fast but I knew it and so it was mended. But later, in Paris, I didn't realize it was falling away until it was too late to stitch the confidence that was stripped from me.
Although I will always struggle for humility, one of the greatest lessons I have learned from my four years with Covenant College is the incompetence of independence and the consequence of community.
As I settle into an Alaskan life, I hope to keep the community of Dallas and of Lookout Mountain close. I hope to invest in the land and the people of Anchorage until my time here is finished. I hope that the memories I will have made, and the people I will have shared them with will win as heavy a parting as the one that so recently marked my heart.
Statement of Purpose: To strive for community in Anchorage and to log my progress, sharing glimpses of the adventures it brings (for I expect nothing less than a series of adventure) so that those who have poured into me over the past 22 years may know and pray.
